INTERESH advances AI-based geospatial analysis at the JackDaw Code Camp in Prague

INTERESH partners took part in the PoliRuralPlus JackDaw Code Camp hosted at the Faculty of Information Technology of the Czech Technical University in Prague.

Held from 13 to 15 January 2026, the three-day sprint centred on the further development of JackDaw (Kavka), a European geospatial AI system designed to connect large language models with GIS data and spatial analytical tools.

For INTERESH, the work carried out during the Code Camp fed directly into Experimental Action #4, led by the Czech Centre for Science and Society (CCSS), which provides AI-based analyses for the Regional Action Plan. Central to this process is the ability to engage with environmental and territorial data through advanced geospatial intelligence and structured natural-language interaction.

The integration of LLM capabilities with real spatial datasets and GIS computation enables complex soil and territorial information to be examined within a structured analytical framework, grounding outputs in spatial evidence.

The Code Camp brought together more than 30 researchers and developers from eight European countries. INTERESH was represented by Melania Riefolo of the University of Foggia and Karel Charvát (CCSS), in continuity with the project’s ongoing work on AI-based geospatial tools for soil-health governance.
